Yes, over the years, so many...


A few years ago I unpacked a portfolio of smallish drawings, ones that had been made for a variety of purposes. Years ago in Boston, I had a studio exhibit of some of them, and these are the ones that remain. Some are simply ideas, sketches for sculpture, or a direction I thought I might take. Others, with color - sort of small paintings, but also could be considered colored drawings - announce my transition to making mostly 2-dimenstional works dealing with materials and color. With my study of Chinese calligraphy always present in my mark, there was something natural and unforgiving about working with a brush and ink: it is what it is, like a hummed tune, a sung composition.
